I saw one (and drove the car) cable operater clutch in an MGB powered
MGTD. Talk about a toggle switch clutch! It was head snapping, that's
for sure. and you could never teach anybody how to drive a stick with
it. The series of pulleys to change direction was a nightmare.
I would consider other options like new hydraulics.
Of course VWs always had cable clutches and they worked OK.
