The stud is a threaded rod (so to speak) it has a slot for a screw
driver in one end. Of course when new, this worked fine to install or
remove the pin. BUT after many years under the car, you may need a
chisel. NOT to chisel it off but a chisel has a wide enough blade and a
six sided shaft where a socket wrench will fit over. Not that giant
breaker bar with a 10' cheater pipe and maybe, just maybe it will
unscrew like the book says.
BTW, snap on screw drivers break when you use them on these pins.
Crapsmans screwdrivers always round off even on simple jobs so don't use
one of them. A good cold chisel with a six point shaft has worked for me
many times. (not all the time though.) for the tough jobs, use a
sawzall.
