Purchase "oil gun" from Marine Supply store. This looks like your basic
grease
gun but handles oil, instead.

N5's are "correct" for the orignal 948's.
N5Y's are the Champion "Projected nose"
type, also fine for your engine. Burn a little "cleaner" due to nose of
plug being more "immersed" in combustion process.

948 powered Sprites did 0-60 in 20
seconds. Most replace the 948 with the
more torquey 1275 version of the Series
"A" engines which give 0-60 in about
11 seconds, give or take a little.

948's and later 1098's are referred to as
"small bore" Series "A" engines. The later
1275 versions of the Series "A" engine is
referred to as the "large bore".

All Series "A" engines are basically bullet
proof as long as they are well maintained
(regular oil and filter changes and such)
and are not over-revved, except the "CC"
version of the 1098 which has smaller
main bearing journals than the later "CG"
version of this capacity engine.

Among the 1275's, the later "thick flange"
engine is the strongest, with less bore
flex than the earlier "thin flange" version
of this engine capacity. The "flange" refers
to the thickness of the oil sump to engine
interface.

Pick up a copy of David Vizard's "Tuning
BL's A-Series Engine". Within lies what you need to know about Spridget
engines!
