I was on a roll and blended a lot of info. It's the 948 that belongs to
the car and hadn't been run for 29 years. It was smoking when we first
ran it, but since we had a number of set backs through the summer, we
didn't get to log any run time. I replaced the rod bearings because they
were loose enough to jiggle once I was in there to replace the thrust
washers. Now that we drove it those happy miles, the smoke has subsided.
Some of it may have come from filling it with oil so many times and
flooding the valves etc. Did you know oil poured from a gallon jug can
actually FILL the entire rocker cover to the point where oil will spill
all over the engine? Once warmed up, it was drooping to about 15 PSI at
idle, and 40 PSI was as high as I saw it. I didn't run it above 4000rpm
to be kind after just coming out of its coma.

Thanks
Dave
