Well, we have just completed an INCREDIBLE amount of work on my garage, as
the latest OSHIT (EATSHIT) weekend. If you have been following my story, I
bought a house with a great garage last year, but the garage needed work. A
group of listers has come to the rescue.
A GIGANTIC "THANK YOU!" goes out to Frank, Kevin, Larry, Dave, Chris, Bill
and Mike, and to my S.O., Jodie, for all the hard work. AND, to all of the
wives who let their husbands come out to play!
Saturday we were able to replace the door (walk in, not car) with a door that
Frank got for me from a job site. This is a nice, 15 light, Stanley door,
only slightly used. Frank had that installed in less than an hour! (How
does he work so fast?!?)
Then, Frank cut two holes in the walls and installed two windows in the shop
area. Frank had donated a used window along with the door, and I bought a
new one for the other wall.
The hardwood floor in the shop was totally rotten, so most of the rest of us
removed all the "stuff" from the shop, and then ripped up the wood. The dirt
underneath was higher than I was expecting, so we found the shovels and
started removing dirt down to 4" so a concrete slab can be poured. After a
bit of coaxing, I broke down and bought a pick!
Dave and Chris started the electrical work, and Kevin came in a little later
due to a Drs. appointment and also worked electrical. The wiring was a mess
as well, but now all if fine. A new electrical box and a dozen more outlets
in the garage. Replaced all the outlets, switches, and wiring everywhere.
They installed outlets in the rafters and I hung 4' plug in flourescent
lights.
The plug in lights are cheap at Home Depot, etc. When they burn out, you can
just unplug them, throw them away and install new ones. They are only about
$9 each, so that's the way I went.
Sunday, Kevin came back to finish some more electrical work. We installed
two motion sensing flood lights outside. I had the lights, and was very
happy to be able to use them. Then we added some more outlets and planned
out the rest of the work, that I can finish up.
All in all, I figure these guys saved me about a year's worth of work, and
maybe a thousand dollars (or more)! Jodie kept everybody fed and coffee'd
with some great snacks and hearty beef stew. Kevin got very lucky on Sunday
and went away with homemade chocolate chip cookies!

Now, I can't WAIT to hear the comments!!! (I promise to get rid of the pile
of dirt!)
