The stock gearbox was meant to run on
mineral-based oils of the time, at the
time the vehicle was manufactured!

Most importantly the synchros were meant to work their best on same.

So....today's synthetics may or may not
be suitable in the immediately foregoing
respect in terms of most effective "action".

For these reasons alone I would go with
a mineral-based 20-50 in the summer,
and maybe a 10-40 down to about the
mid 20's in temperature. Below that I
might go with a 5-30 depending upon
how often it got this cold along with
whether itremained below 32F the majority of the time.

Castrol, Redline, whatever. As long as
it meets basic specs. for a mineral-based
multi-viscosity motor oil (per the manual)
it's all pretty good stuff these days.
