DO NOT! make the gaps any bigger than they should be!   bending the body to
fit after the welding has been done is not the answer as it will deform
somewhere you do not want it to deform!  probably rocker wrinkles.
why weld braces?  why not make braces that bolt to the door strikers and the
upper door hinge holes?    make them 1/4" shy of the length you need and
shim with washers to get the final distance.
weld in the inner rockers and then the cowel (lower hinges and outer skin)
then the outer skins of the rockers.    at that point you have trussed the
rear and front portions of what remained after rust removal.   then door
follies begin!
