My sanity on safety has been greatly enhanced since I installed a nifty
free/shareware program called Mailwasher [www.mailwasher.net]. It detects
the probable spams, virii, etc. as well as folks you want to add to your
very own "blacklist" and has a companion "friends" list so you can still get
your favorite widely distributed travel alerts or whathaveyous. A very nice
little product indeed and, cheaper than the Spamnet product just written up
in the Wall Street Journal [http://www.cloudmark.com/products/spamnet/] that
while now free, will soon be a for-fee product to cover the marketing costs,
etc.
There's also another nice freebie available from www.grisoft.com so you can
have a belts and suspenders approach to these things; when it comes to virus
protection, there's no such thing as too many checks, at least in my book.

Of course, I only had to worry seriously about this when I had to switch to
Outlook Express after my Eudora went into brainlock! Hope your weekend will
be warmer than ours up here in the great white north of Massachusetts!
