Oil Thrower

I was installing my new timing gears and chain on my 1275. I was putting the
oil thrower on the way I had it before, with the F facing away from the
engine. I noticed the close proximity of the thrower to the chain. I checked
2 manuals, and the both said that the thrower is installed with the "concave
face, marked F, facing forward away from the engine." Concave, to me, reads
dished out, convex, on the other hand means stick out. Could my thrower be
labeled wrong? I question this because of the few thousandths distance
between the chain and thrower. To put it simply, should the thrower be
installed with the outer ring being closest or furtherest away from the
chain.
