Frank, I am disapointed in you. This is the classic 3 4 5 right triangle,
pythagoras and all that. By driving 6 miles, making opposite right angles
(both left turns), and driving 8 miles they are separated as the crow flies
(they wanted to know how far apart they were) by a line that goes through
the starting point as is the hypotenuses of both right triangles. a-squared
(36) plus b-squared (64) equals c-squared (100), therefore each hypotenuse
was 10 miles long, and since they lined up so nicely, the two cars were now
20 miles apart.
