 From John Sprinzel.

"Hi Frank and family.
No - nothing whatever to do with Speedwell, There is a flower, called the
speedwell, which is the color picked by BMC, but it was great for us, as our
name (which came from the local telephone exchange, and which was also my
father's decal printing company trademark) benefited from this association.
Hope you are all well and happy."
Aloha John

And yes, I have THAT telephone number on my Speedwell license plate frame,
SPeedwell-2226

So there you have it. But still no answer to what came first, Speedwell
or Iris. Hmm, both are flowers.
