Further to this, I usually pour a gallon of cheaper oil through the engine
after draining just to make sure extra slop is washed out.

one thing is to make SURE that you get ALL the old oil out!
after i drain mine, i need to jack the car up on the side away
from the oil drain plug, and i can get at least another pint
(it seems so anyway) to come out of the pan!
