The wheels on my car are the standard black / silver steel ones, which I
rather like. Except mine are more like black / silver / rust colour.

Before I dive in to repainting them - anyone know of a guide to the
procedures for this? I repeat, I'm ok with mechanics, but have never
painted _anything_!
What I was going to do would be something like:
o Attack the rust spots with a wire brush.
o Sand off the old paint.
o Apply primer.
o Apply the "real" stuff.
o Apply lacquer.
I suspect that I might be able to get away without the sanding and
primer, or have I lost the plot?
