I am no expert... John is... but I have some experience of RX7 first series,
and would think the disc brakes from a 1984-5 GSL RX7 rear axle would be
best. The 1984-5 have bigger bearings than the previous years of the same
model. Spares are still easy to get.

1984-1985 GSL-SE have bigger brakes and bigger wheels (14"), but I am sure
the 13" wheel GSL axle would be plenty enough for the job- heck, it was
plenty enough a racing Mazda "spec 7" which was at least 700 pounds heavier
than the Bugeye - and this with stock pads. The front brakes do at least 70%
of the work anyways.

A friend of mine stopped at one of the local bone yards on his way home
today and tells me that they have some early 80's RX7 rear ends for $200
each.

He did not know the exact year or model but said they did have disc brakes.

I'm going out to have a look this Sunday and am hoping that someone on the
list can tell me exactly the year(s) and model(s) that can be converted for
the Bugeye.

Are you out there John?
