Last day of the year, day off and a nice sunny day in the mid 50's..... What
could go wrong on a day like this, one set aside to work on the Mutant
Midget....
My new rotors for the rear FIAT system arrived yesterday and today was to be
devoted to them along with the new calibers,cylinders, pads and brake lines.
Dry fitted the rotors to make sure the fit since I have no idea what Fiat the
rear end and brake system is off of. Well they fit snugly on the studs so all
looked good there. Bought a new pipe bender for the lines that the parts
store said I needed with the converter fittings. Before bending decided to
make sure everything screwed together ok. Well, here we go... The metric
fittings wouldn't screw into the rubber hose or t-joiner, the nipple flange
was to long. This called for a trip into town so in the truck I go, hit the
switch on the diesel and what a horrible noise... Crawled under the front end
and found that I broke a bolt to the starter and of course,,, it had to break
off up in the block. Wifes Van to the parts store(s) and got the correct
brake lines and bolt for the starter (took 3 stores). Ended up spending most
of the afternoon drilling, reversing the old bolt out and having the fun of
holding up a 20+ pound starter up while aligning the bolts to reinstall. Ok
that is done. Back to the Mutant....... Again made sure all parts fit
together, then carefully placed the bends in the line... What beauty
until..... the line into the rubber hose to the cylinder, it felt as if it
started ok but it didn't now I have a striped connetor on the new line. Now
will prob need to buy another line, rebend and go again.
QUESTION... the rubber line that goes from the Caliber to the brake line..
should you be able to blow air through it freely. I couldn't and took 100 lbs
of preasure with the compresser to get air to go through it.... Guess I prob
need new rubber too?????
Vent... Vent... Vent... ok... I feel better now.....
