back in the day it would be unreasonable to expect more than 100k miles
without extensive service, now many cars reach the 300 mark with little
more than preventitive maintenance.  i think that says something about
what all those "complicated" "widgets" and "doodads" are doing inside
the car.

furthermore im sure there were plenty of recalls back then, but the
cars attached to them have hopefully been forgotten.
