How can you test and see if
the PCV diaphragm is good? I
have two, one I KNOW will
allow the car to smoke, when I
gently blow on the tube that
connects to the oil separator,
it passes air out of the hole
on the top plate. Another one
that I just got, when I gently
blow in the same orifice, it
makes a sound like a quacking
duck. Does either one of these
sound like they are ok?
I finally have the correct
intake for the 68, as well as
all the smog stuff. Call me
paranoid, stupid, afraid of
the government. But the way
"I" see it, lobbyist's for the
big car companies will always
be looking for a way and means
to eliminate our older cars. I
know that eventually, some law
will roll back the emission
tests to include all cars that
came with smog devices, not
just a certain # of years. Of
course, they will wait until
they feel safe that no
replacement parts are
available, and then pass such
a law. That would pull many of
our cars off the road in a
hurry, as we ALL desmog our
cars.
I will have the correct intake
in place, with the smog stuff
off, and the orifice to the
gulp valve blocked.
BUT, if/when such a law
passes, I will have what I
need to keep my car on the
road.
Case in point, in the years
when I was driving my GTO, I
read about CA emissions laws
and inspection for correct
parts. It wasn't a law here,
but for grins, I sought out
the pre heater shroud and
correct air cleaner for my
car. I gave less than $10 for
everything. Then, for a few
years in my county, they tried
to enforce the same law as CA.
I pulled my stuff out of the
closet, bolted it to the car,
and went on my merry way. For
shits and giggles, I went back
to the same wrecking yards,
seeking the same items. Now
the pre heater shroud was not
$1, but $20. The air cleaner
was not $5, but $50.
I know it sounds stupid, but
we are talking about big money
and our government. Cruise
eBay, smog stuff is there, it
is cheap. You NEVER know what
will happen tomorrow. Prepare
for stupid laws TODAY!!!''
