Uhhhh...

I had an 8.3-1 (now 9.8-1)
Cooper S cammed (advanced
40) 1.25X2 SU equipped 1293 with an
alum.head (stock valve sizes) that would
disagree with "sluggish" on initial
acceleration!!

I never (NEVER) had a problem with the
stock, factory originated SU's on my BE's, MGA's or MGB's. 'Course I
oiled the shafts, linkages as well when topping
off the air valves. I mean, we all do this
while we're "at it", right??

'Course, I never had a
problem with the only Weber ("45") I used
on a PO'd "tuned" 1340 either, once the
"flow" truly got going. Sure, I could've gone to smaller chokes for more
quick
initial WOT "off-idle" response, but that
would have defeated the purpose of the
90HP+ (at the wheels) "Vizardized" high rpm (7.2K) state of tune.

It's all relative in terms of compromise
considering application, anyway. :)

But, for the street with cams of less than
270 degrees or so, I'll take an SU (variable choke type) any day over
fixed
venturi, and most especially a Weber
downdraft with an unheated intake
manifold (fuel economy vs. little, if any,
increase in performance over the stock
set-up).
