Still in the car?  If so, there is stamped into the alum housing just to one
side of center on a wider portion, the tooth count.  Like 10/39 for a 3.9:1
or 9/38 for a 4.22:1 dif.

Scrape off the top with a wire brush and look at it with a mirror.  That is,
unless you have a REALLY pointy head to squeeze up there!  No comments,
please!

Out of the car, it's also stamped into the outer edge of the ring gear.
