Tim...

nothing odd about the outside cylinders
"supporting" idle moreso than the inner
two cylinders, Tim considering the siamesed
induction system.

The best way to attack this problem (unless
you have logical reason for having a clue) is
to go the route of a major tune-up (by the
book), starting with a compression and
leak-down check to determine basic engine
mechanical condition.

I mean if a couple of cylinders are well down, not much point in going further.

But assuming mechanical cond. is up to par,
then take it from there, systematically going through the ignition and fuel
systems
logically and in detail. You'll find the problem or maybe you've got more than
just one problem?

The distributor may be new but if it's
not advancing as it should, you'll have
little power once you get to 3k (if you even
get there!:). Same thing with a weak fuel
pump or low set level in the fuel bowls, etc.
