I have located a rebuilt (not yet run) 1098 and rib case tranny near here
that I can get for about $1800. I was thinking of a 1275 for my bugeye but
this seems like it might be a good deal less expensive. here's what the guy
says about his motor:

"i have a 1098 motor as well...here are the specs on it, it has not been ran
yet.
the block has been hot tanked, honed, decked..etc
heads are rebuilt with lapped valves, new seals, cleaned seats, new valve
springs,
new main and rod bearings
thrust washer,
freeze plugs,
oil thrower
kent cam 266,
kent cams billet roller timing chain
engine bushing
main lock washers
 filter
file fit rings
new 180 thermostat
polished crank
flywheel has been resurfaced
motor mounts
oil pump
pertronix ignition
new wires/cap/rotor

i did not include everything done, but you get the point.

i have a pierce aluminum manifold, it is brand new, and a downcraft weber
carb."

All machining was done at a speed shop in the South Bay (San Francisco Bay)
area. What do my fellow listers think about something like this? What
should I look for and at before I plunk down my $$?
