Tommy:

You say, "Taxes are higher, insurance is higher, and all the damn snowbirds
scare me."

It isn't just the snowbirds that are dangerous (driving too slow, not seeing
well). More often, it's the locals who are driving under the influence or
grossly overdriving their skill level. And, in this area (Just west of
Tampa), running red lights is a regular occurrence. One reason for this is
that you can sit for more than 3 minutes at a light at an intersection.
Consequently, too many people try to beat the red. And, we have a road - US
19 that is 3 or 4 lanes in each direction, 45 or 55 mph speed limit, lined
with malls, stores & strip malls and has cross-overs in the divider every 500
to 1000 feet. It's one of the most unsafe roads I've ever driven on. My MGB
or Turner (smaller than an MGA) are sitting ducks on that road.

Insurance sure is higher. But, the only tax I've found higher than in
Connecticut is the real estate tax (1.5% to 2% of purchase price). So, likely
much higher than South Carolina. But, unlike Connecticut, no annual tax on
cars.

Wish I had room in my garage for another car. But, 4 cars in a 3-car garage
doesn't leave much free space.

Good luck on your move.
