Bill...

As far as "compatibility" goes,
the #40819 was used in stock factory Cooper S and '67 Sprite 1275's, despite
the differences in the engines. The ign.
setting spec may have been slightly different for each, considering compression
ratio, valve size differences, etc. I haven't
got a Cooper S man. so I can't check this.

According to my factory manual for Spridgets, the static ign. setting
would be 7 degrees BTDC, dynamic
would be 22 degrees BTDC at 1200rpm, but
I think the later figure is a misprint. 12 (not 22) sounds a lot more
reasonable to me in
view of the printed advance curve in the
book (which is):

0 - 3 @600
6-12 @ 1000
11-15 @ 2000
22-26 @ 5200
28-32 @7,000

Personally, with my stock PO 'd '67 1275,
which came with the 23D, #40819.....
I set dynamic timing to 30 at 6000 with a programmable timing light so I never
really set or checked the foregoing as it appears in the book. Total was always
the
important number to me as this was the
number that if mis-set, could get me into
trouble.

As long as the motor performed well, and didn't "ping" on acceleration or
diesel on shutdown and the "proper" plugs looked good, I was happy with the
foregoing total
advance number.
