Peter,
I was very pleased to read, in the latest issue of Classic Motorsports, that
they had chosen to retain OE type shocks, specially modified by you, for
their project Midget. I was one of the guys who "lobbied" Tim Studdard,
when CM mentioned tube shock conversions. As an example of their
effectiveness, I cited 1982(?) SCCA F production national champion Bob Criss
(1500 Midget), as one example of someone using Armstrong lever shocks to
beat the snot out of the coil-over equipped opposition. Bob is an old
friend, and always took particular delight in beating high-buck competitors
with simple, inexpensive, but very effective equipment. And, being a
naturally mischievous, ornery guy, he also enjoyed "rubbing their noses in
it".
Unfortunately, at that time, I was unable to put Studdard in touch w/Criss,
and figured that, since "it's a bullshit world", CM's project Midget would
appear with tube shocks grafted on.

As a 40+ year Brit car guy, and one who's professional duties frequently
include advising, advocating, and passing judgment on PROPER maintenance of
machinery, it drives me absolutely NUTS to read some of the myths,
fabrications/outright lies, about Brit cars, that the American automotive
press has foisted upon the car buying public for most of those 40+ years. I
anticipate the exploding of one of those myths, by the performance of your
shocks, and was pleased that CM stated, in their article, that poorly
rebuilt Armstrong shocks had been too prevalent, in the past (and present,
too), and that properly rebuilt or new ones were both reliable and
long-lasting.

Listerati,
It being slow on the list, I thought I'd do some shameless
self-promotion..... actually a thank you.

Members of this list have prodded me over the years to develop a
remotely adjustable lever shock.
We have, and it is being featured in the Classic Motorsports magazine
Project Midget on news-stands now.
To those that pushed us, thank you. I did read your advise. Special
thanks to Ron Soave for gathering the info, and a very special thanks
to David Lieb and his "mule".

Peter C.

(Apologies if I've overstepped the bounds of commercialism.)
