I'm a big advocate of using a blanking sleeve and blocking off the bypass 
outlets (use a late 1275 pump and there isn't even an outlet to block off.  
Yes, 
the engine always runs cool but I do it for max power, don't care about miles 
per gallon, and change the oil every year regardless of mileage (always low!). 
 The engine runs cooler on the gauge and I'm happy.
