I just figured out why they sell a kit that lowers the rear end by 1.5", and a
0.5 inch kit for the front. I thought it would be 1:1 relationship between
the spring pan spacer and the relsulting drop. Not so. The 0.5" spacer gives
about a 1.5" drop in the front. The reason is that the 0.5" spacer is added
halfway out on the moment arm between the a pan attachment to the frame and
the axle.
Imagine lifting one end of a ruler up off a table. If you put a 1/2" spacer
under the ruler at the 6" mark, the 12" mark will be MUCH higher.
DOH!!!
Anybody want a home-made set of 1" spacers? Good for a 3" front-end drop. A
bit too "East LA" on an A35 Austin, completely "slammed" on a bugeye.
