Put the car on a jack stand, on the side you are working on. Remove
the tyre, and put your floor jack under the A arm, with the jack
handle out towards the front of the car. Raise the A arm to tension
the spring and raise the shock just a tad. Remove the trunnion loose
from the shock. Gently lower the floor jack, with you up at the front.
The tension should release enough that you can then safely pull the
spring loose from the A arm, and then remove it from the car.
This is in no way to be interpreted to be the safest way to do this,
but it has worked well for me numerous times.
