You're trying to reinvent the wheel. The cost for a small AM/FM/CD unit is in
the $100 range. I think you're trying to avoid drilling a antenna hole, go for
one of those hidden FM Antenna jobs that can be mounted under the back deck.
Several of the lower end Radios I've looked at have Aux Input for things like
an I-Pod to plug in. Many have a remote conrole capability, my XM Roadie II
came with a remote adapter. That same Aux input can be used for an XM Radio and
you'll get better fidelity, not that it matters in a Bugeye anyway. In my Acura
I had a Cassette Deck and used the Tape Adapter. Worked great and audio
fabulous but not as good as direct connect via the aux ports. I decided I
didn't want to tear the dash apart and add a cable that would allow the XM to
plug in at the same spot as the 6 disk changer and be controlled via the Head
Unit. I recently switched to FM Modulation(got tired of listening to the Tape
Adapter squeak needs cleaning and lubrication) and
although not as clean sounding as when direct connect, works adequately in
most situations and driving locations around here.
