According to the Sprite parts book, if you know how to read the parts
numbers code, most of the fasteners were zinc coated, not cadmium.
Cadmium is what restorers do today because of it is easier to find some
place to do it due to environmental concerns. The cad plating is actually
a little better for corrosion resistance. Cad plating has a frosty look
to it and the zinc plating is shiny like chrome. Also because the zinc
plating is a passive type of plating, you have to clean all the rust, dirt
and corrosion off each fastener before sending it out for zinc plating.
