BZ may be speaking for his view of the US but there differing views that he 
is not putting forwards so this does need a reply - but, no more than this 
one reply....

I really hate to disagree with the below but it is a European perception and 
historically evidenced belief that the US has only just realised they should 
leap on the environment protection bandwagon that was and in many areas 
still is led by European factors.  The generally accepted view and that 
promulgated in the European sector is that the political awareness of this 
impetus has only just reached some in the US and has yet to reach many, many 
more.  The story over here is that it is still the power of the dollar that 
leads the US by the nose.
