Hi.
That sounds about right. When I was contracting in 2003-2004.  I was paying
about $1000.00 a year for a family health insurance plan. I'm sure rates
have gone up since then.
I got it through a small business association here in Mass. It was good
plan, paid for most everything, good thing too, my daughter broke her elbow
that year which required surgery and a few nights in Children's hospital.
I don't know what you can do except for one of you getting a job that has
benefits.
