The Chinese are just as capable of making quality stuff as anyone.
The problem with "Chinese junk" is that the Chinese make it to the
specs of the importers. The people who import Chinese tools and junk
are the ones who specify how much quality goes into the product, and
if they want the cheapest junk they can get, that's what the Chinese
make for them. Those Fs could very well be nice cars. But, getting
one here will be costly because of the trade deficit imbalances. The
Big 3, and others, especially Mazda, will lobby hard for high tariffs.
The Chinese aren't stupid. But, they think we are because they see
the junk that we are buying from them. "Modern Gentleman" is a
marketing ploy directed at the Chinese mentality. It may sound queer
to us, but they aren't selling to us, yet. The 240Z, which I consider
to be a nice Asian sports car for the era, was called the "Fairlady"
in Japan. The Chevy Nova, in Spanish, means Chevy doesn't go. Sega,
video game maker who sponsors soccer in Italy, and other places is
slang for ........well, it is an Italian slang term for something.
So, don't judge the new MG until it's been tried. It may be a piece
of junk. But, I doubt it. You gotta admit the Chinese have taste
for buying the Marque.
