Hi,
First, I just sold one on ebay for $501 plus shipping. The owner had
me ship it to Rivergate, I assume for a check. I sold it as pulled
with no guarantee. I was honest about condition and it did seem in
good shape. I was expecting it to fetch $200-250.

Second, I recently traded one with a Rivergate kit to another lister
for something worth about $600. I was happy with the deal although
now it seems like I could have gotten way more on ebay. But, I got
something that is worth about what I had invested in the tranny and
kit and I got to help a fellow lister, so all is good.

Third, I recently bought a Miata, with which I am very pleased. My 74
Midget is for sale and I think I have a buyer for it. So, my $900plus
still in the box Morriservice kit and the Datsun tranny that I still
have seem to be surplus.

Now, having spouted all that, I can give some answer to your questions.
1. Check the fluid. Drain it and look for metal shavings and note
condition of oil.
2. The shifter will probably seem sloppy. That is no big deal. They
all need new bushings on the shifter, which is not anything to fret
over.
3. Shift it into each gear and turn the input shaft. The output shaft
should turn accordingly, i.e. the opposite way in reverse, about 1:1
in 4th, etc.
4. Check the input shaft for excess play.
5. Parts are available for rebuild so even if it seems like junk it is
probably worth something as a rebuildable core.

You can contact me off list if you are interested in my tranny and
kit. I will need to get back what I have in the kit but I can make
someone a deal on the kit and tranny.
HTH.

Cheers,
Derf
