Before I bought my Twin Cam fitted LBC, the PO fitted a new high pressure
oil pump to the engine because of the low oil pressure indicated by the
stock electrical Lucas gauge. By low, I am talking 30-35 psi max above 4000
rpm when hot , and down to 5-10 psi when idling on a hot engine. After I had
the engine rebuilt, and I knew the oil pressure was fine, I still had those
very low readings on the gauge.
Then I fit a new alternator, and now the oil pressure gauge reads normal -
when the engine is hot, I see 40 to 45 psi at 3000 to 4000 rpm , and 20-25
when idling. That's right for a Twin Cam.
Why should the alternator made a difference? Even with the battery fully
charged and the dynamo (generator) working, I never had readings like this
before. Please enlighten me.
