Phil,
Haynes is fine for the most part, except the part
about cam end float is confusing or flat out wrong.
Put the endplate and sprocket on before panicking when
you get to that point. I use Tom Monroe's Engine
Builder's Handbook as the "How To" reference.
Available in lots of places. His welding book is
pretty good too.
