In fact, ABS equipped cars tend to have longer stopping distance on  
dry pavement. Not sure about ice, never owned a car that had it.

It's only function, AFAIK, is directional control and control in a  
panic stop. It serves no other function, it certainly is not about  
stopping shorter.
