I don't know much about sealants either but I used Permatex Black Silicone
Adhesive Sealant Item #81158 16B from my local auto parts store. A thin film
on the gaskets seems to seal and work okay with fuel fumes, separates easily
when disassembling, and wipes off from gaskets when rubbing between finger and
thumb to enable reuse of gaskets.
