AFAIK... when the SU fuel pump fails it is nearly always due to the point
contact failing inside the pump.
I took my original SU fuel pump, modified it to use transistor switching...
It still "clicks" but doesn't suffer from burnt or stuck points... and it
hasn't
quit (yet!)
