Hey! Our Spridget was truer than yours ;-)
Yes, I know that you mean that your car had bits from both Sprites and
Midgets, but it had a LOT of non-Spridget aspects as well. Heck, ours ran a
Lucas alternator. Of course the regulator died on the third day of the rally
and we drove from Fort Payne, AL to New Orleans with the headlights on to
"regulate" the voltage down to the point of not boiling the battery. For me,
the trip went from Palatine, IL to Statten Island, NY by way of York, PA (to
pick up Biff), followed by the piddling 1500-mile rally, then back to York
to drop off Biff, complete with three hours parked on the interstate by
Birmingham, AL because a state trooper had executed a high-speed crossing of
the median and crashed into another car, killing the driver. Then home to
Palatine from York. It turns out that not only does the 7-gallon Midget tank
make for decent tiing for driver changes, it is also possible to sleep in an
open Spridget at speed if you are tired enough. My trip was a bit over 4000
miles in 7 days in a "parts car". I had oil loss issues, so fuel stops also
meant dumping a couple quarts of oil into the engine as well.

A few years ago, my daughter and I took a trip from Palatine, IL to Sedona,
AZ and back in the Midget, too. Once again, I got to spend three hours or so
parked on the interstate. This time it was just past Albuquerque, NM because
of a grass fire.

In February, Trish and I flew out to Reno to buy Crash's Bugeye. We drove it
3200 miles home by way of the Pacific Coast Highway and San Diego, to say
nothing of Sedona, the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest, Painted Desert,
etc. It rained on us most of the way, but it was snow at the Grand Canyon
and from St Louis to Palatine. I gotta say that the Bugeye leaks less than
my Midget...

I have also commuted a few times to the Valentine's LBC Rallye in PA, but
that is only about 750 miles each way, so it hardly counts.

Some of us still drive them...
