You're right. And, "shrinking" the size of the cast aluminum crank pulley
is one of the future projects along with installation of a mini alternator.
Combined, they may allow a larger water pump pulley. All this has to wait
until after the next couple of races.

If you can't fit a bigger water pump pulley can you fit a smaller crank
pulley? If you use the 2 part Cooper S damper you wouldn't compromise
damping. Or if you are using the tin crank pulley you could get a solid
aluminum one and turn down the section the belt runs in.

so really need a larger pulley
for the pump. However, there isn't enough room for the fan belt to clear
the thermostat housing if I do that. I have already ground away a good bit
of the housing for the belt to clear it, and still treat the outer surface
of the belt and the housing with paraffin wax in case the belt wobbles
around at speed. I have a head from a 1275 on the 948.
