My '92 Miata's original Panasonic battery failed shortly after buying the
car in '99. It then ate replacement batteries until I ponied up the $ ($90
at the time) and bought the Westco gel-cell battery. It never hesitated in
the 4 years after I replaced prior to selling the car. Buy the real thing.

That said, it may not be the starting problem. Have you consulted
www.miata.net ?

Nory,

First, like a number of newer cars there are circuits active when the
ignition is off. For instance on the Miata the gas gage is still
active with the ignition off. The Miata has a rather small battery.
This early in the morning I can not think what type but setting they
will run down and if they are dead or close to dead they usually will
not come back to life. Mine was replaced twice before figuring out
what was happening. So I always keep it on a maintenance charger -
no more battery prolbems.
