Hello,

In general, relays are used to use control one load with a
DIFFERENT SIZED load. Yes, in car applications they are for
switching a larger load with a smaller one, BUT,

They are essentially used as circuit ISOLATORS. That is, to
separate one load from another, whether of different CURRENT or
VOLTAGE ratings or BOTH. Matters not whether the larger controls
the smaller or vice versa, the circuits are kept from each
      other.

They are sometimes used so that one load can control multiple
other loads, or multiple relays may be arranged as crude logic
circuits, and are essentially the foundation of our computer
      circuit boards,

Best regards,
 Bill L. mailto:pythias@pacifier.com
