My Subaru developed a flat cam at 6K - never replaced , and then at
18K a short block swap due to bad piston slap, the piston slap was
back at 38k - "out of warranty"!!
They use a very short skirt slipper piston to reduce friction... !!
I now have a Honda for a daily driver with 'Ice' tires for the
winter.......
