Electronic ignitions charge faster, have fewer moving/wear parts, can
fire multiple sparks, and can handle higher voltages than points.
Once properly installed and adjusted no maintenance is required for
years or decades.

Points are simple and easy to fix, but require more maintenance than
electronic systems, like periodic adjustment and replacement.  Higher
voltages make points wear out faster.
