After doing a little research on the web, I devised a fairly decent DIY recipe
for zinc plating.
Results were very satisfactory.:

The poor condition of my bonnet stays is what really got me started on all this.
Before I give you the recipe I should mention that you can order a zinc kit
from Caswell plating for about $150.
http://www.caswellplating.com/ This might be an easier alternative if you do
not wish to play around
with chemicals.
