Sounds like you got some great mechanical experience on that car. Just what
you needed now that you own an LBC.

>>> Did we all own Pontiacs?
When I was 15, my Dad told me he would disown me if I ever bought a Pontiac.
I never did, but I was given a '71 Ventura ll in the late seventies. It was
a low mileage CA car with a perfect body, no rust, and a like-new interior.
It was a typical GM pile, which is why it was free. It was a NOVA with a
Pontiac 350 big block and an automatic that slipped badly. It had (broken)
air conditioning, so I cut an access hole in the fender well to give it it's
very first set of new plugs. I guess nobody had ever wanted to spend a day
removing and replacing the AC to get to them. I adjusted the bands and
cleaned the filter, and the tranny quit slipping. Removing the '71 CA smog
bits and hooking the vacuum advance up as an advance perked up the
performance and almost doubled the mileage, but the power brakes kept
locking up and refusing to release, so I removed the power booster. Then the
heater started putting water on my girlfriend's leg, so I threw away the
broken AC to get to the heater core, which I had repaired. I had to
fabricate the rubber bushing that held the PCV valve in the valley-cover.
Parts guys all tried to give me a part for a SB Chevy, and the part for
Pontiac big blocks didn't fit either. At this point, the car ran and looked
pretty good, so I quickly sold it. It had manual brakes, no AC, and just
over 44,000 original miles on it.
