Subject: [Spridgets] Chinese Quality Always Bad?

My brother in law went into Guitar Center. Closed his eyes and asked the
guy to hand him different acoustic guitars. He kept his eyes closed as he
did not want to be swayed by labels.

He played Martins, Taylors, Gibsons, the whole gamut. Price was no object
as he had just received a large inheritance.

Note that my brother in law is a very fine musician. He paid his way
through college as a studio musician playing keyboard and guitar. As a very
young man he worked with Nelson Riddle in Los Angeles. . his musical resume
is very impressive..

So he has an ear. .

He came out of Guitar Center with a guitar known as a Parkwood.

When I got a chance to play and look at it I was extremely impressed with
the build quality, the finish (nitro) and the way the guitar produced highs
with a deep bass.

The kerfing, all the details of the build were second to none.

Then I read inside that the thing is made in China. . which totally caught
me off guard.

The Chinese can build to a high end quality (at least guitars) if the owner
of the company orders them to build to their highest quality. And I would
guess has a rep in the manufacturing facility to enforce the quality of the
work?

My father in law has made many trips to China to have an automated puppet
built for his business. He had at the time been making puppets for churches
for the last 35 years. . and making a very nice living from his 20 thousand
square foot facility where his puppets were manufactured.

The quality of this automated teaching dog that rides into the classroom on
a tricycle and sings and talks to the children is as good as anything I have
seen.

>From what I have been told, when you go to China to have a product made they
ask you if you want their highest quality, medium quality or the lesser
quality.

My take, most of the businesses that order stuff from China order on the low
quality side to make a buck. . and as the Chinese are willing to comply,
they get the bad reputation that sticks with them. And they brought this
reputation on themselves complying with requests to turn out low quality
items.

Ok. . start taking some shots at me. . I know that I may have struck a few
nerves with my email!!!
