Mine were drilled out and replaced with sheet metal screws. Maybe one or two
seems to rattle around in the header rail. It was only noticeable when the top
frame was off to be re-finished. I don't notice it at all while
driving.....probably because everything else is rattling around. If your car
is quiet enough to hear them, then there is something else wrong!

Subject: [Spridgets] Top/Header Rail question

I am going to remove the tattered rag that tries to pass as a top on our '76
and swap it for a used one that was given to me. I realize this isn't the
best solution, but it will allow me to drive it on days with rain in the
forecast. In Washington that is more often than not. So far I've never
driven it with the top up but have to watch the weather.

So, the questions:

What size and material are the rivets that secure the seal retainer to the
header rail?

I was planning to drill out the rivets, but I don't see a way to get the
remains out of the header rail after they a drilled out and drop into the
space in the header rail? Am I missing something, or are they just left in
there to rattle around?
