Kirk, Thanks for bringing the Toyota thing up. I almost did a few times but I
figured all I would do is rant about the idiots behind the wheel and maybe
piss off some people. Too late, here goes. I was outraged when I saw coverage
of the jerk being chased down the highway by the cops to be "saved". Toyota
needs to sue him, then they should lock him up for being too damn stupid to be
allowed out in public. We'd be helping the gene pool by putting him out of our
misery.

I have owned and driven some stupidly fast cars and ridden in a few
others that were semi-mythical in their capabilities. With VERY few
exceptions, I don't think there was a one of them that would/could continue to
accelerate or even move forward when the brakes are depressed. Particularly
from a dead stop. I guess if you had multiple hundreds of horsepower in a
rear-engined car with very little weight up front you could pull it off.
Maybe. A modern unmodified car? No way. A Hybrid of all things? Give me a
break.

Shift into neutral. Turn it off. Push the damn brakes to the floor and
hold them there. It will stop. I don't know the exact Prius setup, but most
cars with a push-button start feature still have a key in the ignition to turn
off. To start it, you put the key in, turn it, then push the button. To kill,
you turn off the key like a normal car. This car may be different, but you can
definitely turn the car off and the steering won't lock till you yank the keys
back to the setting where you pull them out. This guy supposedly had the
"presence of mind" to phone for help, but not to figure this out? Yeah, right.
Sounds like a plea for media coverage and future lawsuits to me. I hope the
local cops throw him in jail for the obvious publicity stunt.

Finally, I'm
sorry that the California cop killed himself and his family with his Toyota.
(and I hope he has no family here even more...) But, his own lack of
driving/thinking skills are what killed him. NOT the Toyota. I guess my point
isthis: Things happen while you are behind the wheel. Drivers react, get over
it and then move on. Passengers behind the wheel crash, injure themselves or
die, and sometimes take people with them.

There. I feel better, thanks,

Situation. . Question

That guy who was saved by a Highway Patrol car. . the
CHP guy got in front
of his Prius.

He was asked why he didn't shift into
neutral? His answer, "I was afraid
that I would accidentally shift into
reverse!" So he burned out the brakes
keeping the car at around 80 mph.

And
what is it with these people that they cannot cut the ignition? If your
car
gets stuck and you cannot pull the pedal up. . cut the ignition and
leave it
in gear. It will come to a stop and you will not have to burn out
the brakes!
Is the ignition stuck on at the same time that the gas pedal sticks? I
really
do not think so?

Looks like they panic and lose their logical thinking
processes?
