But don't forget that even the Spitfire people prefer the 1300cc
version of the engine over the 1500. Like the A-series, that family of
engines started around 800cc and was progressively bored and stroked
over the years to eventually wind up as a 1500. Like the 400cid small
block chevy and the 1480cc A-Series, a lot gets sacrificed for the
sake of a little more displacement and the results are not necessarily
as good, especially from a reliability perspective. That said, the
low-end torque of the 1500 is a nice thing.
